Subwoofers (and the air itself!) are NOT in-phase with your mixer and amplifier.
Переглядів 219 тис.5 місяців тому
In this video, we explore the counter-intuitive nature of the phase responses of subwoofer speakers, condenser mics and even the air itself. A very special thanks to Filippo Bartolozzi at B&C Speakers for helping me so much with this project.

Do these consoles sound different?
Переглядів 129 тис.Рік тому
We tested 13 popular audio consoles and two I/O devices to see if they sound different, and by how much. The results were surprising! We want to give a special thank you to John Harrel, Robert Shriver, and Frank Hernandez for letting us borrow gear for this test.

Is doubling speakers +3dB or +6dB? What's parallel and series wiring?
Переглядів 257 тис.Рік тому
Devin demonstrates the differences between parallel and series wiring and answers the age-old question about whether doubling speakers adds 3dB or 6dB, with a close look at what happens in real-time with the voltage and current output from the amp as the frequency and speaker impedance changes. Special thanks to all those who fact checked me on this. I am amazed at how many incredibly brilliant...

Live Review: DPA 4055 vs AUDIX D6 as heard through the PA
Переглядів 16 тис.Рік тому
We ask Jared and Chris their thoughts about the sound of the DPA 4055 and the AUDIX D6 kick drum microphones during soundcheck/show at a local outdoor church event. Using the 3Dio FS Pro II binaural mic, you can hear what we were all hearing if you wear headphones! Main PA was the Nexo STM system with a Yamaha CL5 console.

more content please. :)
I believe that what is shown at 26:45 is wrong. The first 90° phase shift is caused by the air pressure that is built up by the velocity and not the acceleration of the driver and so the microphone's diaphragm will move 90° later. The other 90° is caused from the voltage that the microphone produces because the voltage is produced due to the velocity of the diaphragm. We need a slow motion of the speaker driver and some other surface in front it to confirm but correct me if I am wrong
I think you would be correct about the 90° coming from the mic if it were a dynamic mic. Which is why, when we do use a dynamic mic, we see a total of 270 degrees of shift in the relevant frequency ranges, not just 180. Test condenser mics don’t have phase shift, so the 180 degrees is due only to factors leading up to the mic.
@@devinlsheets_alphasound Very interesting. I forgot that condenser mics where a thing. Also I was wondering because I am building a rotary subwoofer how much phase shift will it produce compared to an ordinary one because it functions completely differently.
@@legomachines5970interesting, not sure how rotary subs will respond in terms of phase. My guess is that it will be similar to a regular driver but I haven’t tested it or read too much about it!
Lol , so what’s the weird part ?? Lol , I don’t get it ?? Hey look when I press on the gas pedal , the rpm meter goes up , pretty cool.
What happens when you turn it up to 11? Btw good detailed content, thanks for taking the time to share.
8:25 what a change in colours hahaha
this is what happens when a near-colorblind sound engineer edits their own videos to save money lol
my ovaries just exploded

Best explanation I have come across
comb filtering at the end
God bless , you beautiful 🕯️ Thank you for existing🤍
Awesome vid! Thanks a lot, learned a lot!
my natural speaking tone is deeper than his singing voice lol
working on a project as a design student. Thanks for the info.
This is the explanation I am looking for not available on any other speaker/audio related channel. Salute.
This is extraordinary! Not only is his voice low, it's beautiful. Bravo!!
This just helped me understand so much about sub frequency response. The cotton ball visual representation made it click! Good stuff here.
Nerd.
Why did you let me talk myself into making you do that
Sealed subs ftw
damn she loves it :P
Wow, that was super interesting. One comment I have is that it wasn't always clear what the graphs were showing, and I had to pick it up from context. Once I figured out what the graphs were showing for each section it was great, but between sections the graph was changed (as is appropriate) without the presenter always explaining what they were. For example, sometimes they were relative response, sometimes they were relative phase, sometimes one of each. It would help a lot if there was some label or maybe an intro screen for each part of the video detailing the test setup. For additional context, I am the sound guy for my local church and I picked it up as a hobby from the old dude who _did_ go to school for sound engineering. I am a software developer by trade, and I know about fourier transforms, harmonics, etc. So I am not totally in the dark about the science, but this was a really interesting lesson. Thanks!
that E flat made my a$$hole vibrate
Avantis was completely different
Nice video
Juan Carlos Tinoco: "¡Que veo! ¡Un rival!"
damn I want a full length vid on this!! so fkn epic
So I was messing around with the speed control and when I set it to 1.25x, UA-cam had a fit when the frequencies went below A1. It was just like nope, Tim is not allowed to sing anything below that.
I can do the same. It's called vocal fry. Ken Trussell of Gold City Quartet could sing very low as well. I actually played their video of "Rainbow of Love," and I was able to match him all the way to the bottom.
I don't know but can you tell me what is infra sub mean tks.
Yuo sound good brother!
0:20 Average douche: "wear headphones cuz is gonna sound AWUSOME!!1!" Seasoned pro: "wear headphones because I've recorded binaural and you are missing the bass frequency with your phone ".
A very nice educational and informatory documentary on sound reproducing and the quality of the reproduced sound like the pitch and quality of the reproduced sound by using the sound reproducing mechanisms .........................
Awe some amazing information about the loudspeaker
What a shame. Having to listen to speakers instead of pipes.
Your knowledge about speakers is great.
For such weight just 50kg the L18 is brutal. thanks for such comparison!!!
what the heck is this guys doing with that many consoles on his hand?
when I was a teenager id have put a mic on my amp in the car and have this guy blast my 15's at 2000w, throwing my license plate across the road.
Hello, the DPA is 4x more expensive. What is the point of this?
What about with a DC Servo driver + amp? It doesn’t use a moving coil. The coil is stationary. Totally different.
when system tuning, how does attenuating compared to boosting affect the phase alteration?
Nexo are very good speakers
He should guest star with Pentatonix...
What a nice voice!
Really love your technical videos, especially with practical examples such as this one and the line array effect! You've confirmed that the pressure/location is allways 180 degrees phase shifted, regardless of frequency. But it might be interesting to mention that, above FS, the input voltage and location are also 180 degrees phase shifted, which results that the microphone phase matches the amplifer voltage in phase! In a 3way speaker, the midrange and tweeter are (/should be) used above their FS which means these frequencies should be in phase on the microphone compared with the amplifier voltage. After delay compensation of course... Also, crossover may (will) mess up stuf depending on implementation but its a fun fact that after all the phase stuff it ends up back were it started for a large part of the frequency range. Sadly it is hard to show this in measurements, because any starting/stopping a sine has additional frequency contents that may (will) fal outside of this frequency range where above remarks are valid...
I would say 6 db (if by doubling of loudspeakers each loudspeaker gets his own amplifierpower.) am I correct?
I know I'm going to be crucified for this, but his lowest notes sound like growling, not singing.
Great voice !
Bro thank God I'm on a laptop with a tiny crap speaker... If I had any proper ones, I'm positive my head would be pulling some Mars Attacks/Scanners move and, you know. 💥
